xbox@e3 2011 and 2012
- April - 2011
One of my most memorable and proudest pieces of work, as a coder and gamer I was given the chance to help build the E3 single-page applications for Xbox.com EMEA.
As a gamer this piece of work was an absolute dream. As part of Electronic Entertainment Expo, I was tasked with the responsibility of building out the Xbox@E3 micro-sites in the EMEA markets for 2011 and 2012.
The projects themselves entailed lots of press coverage throughout the week providing official information on upcoming releases for Xbox 360. The 2011 build was a small Silverlight experience showcasing pictures from the show in LA and video coverage of the Xbox keynote using Microsoft's Smooth Streaming technologies.
The 2012 build was more ambitious, and shelved Silverlight in exchange for HTML5. The 2012 site also included news and coverage from LA, however this time the data was being sourced directly from Xbox facebook's photo albums and live facebook posts. It also used trailers and promo videos being uploaded to YouTube. Both facebook and YouTube were then consumed via their JavaScript apis.
The keynote video streaming was also a feature for 2012 with a live chat ongoing through the keynote. the chat being sourced from tweets and facebook comments.
The final piece of functionality was utilizing a voting mechanism to rally up excitement for the 2012 launch line-up.
